Thinking Of Publishing An E-zine? Check Your Auto-responder First!

There are many uses for an auto-responder. One of many uses is the distributing an ezine or newsletter. Since auto-responder services as a rule are set up to send automatic responses to the people on the list at regular intervals after they opt in, setting up an auto-responder to deliver an ezine can be a bit bewildering.

To distribute a newsletter your auto-responder service must offer a ‘broadcast’ facility. The broadcast feature operates basically the same way as the auto-response facility, with one important difference. The newsletters are not sent out at regular periods after prospects subscribe to your list. The messages can, however, be planned to go out on set days, which has no bearing on when the the subscriber signed up to be added to the mailing list.

Broadcast messages are one time messages that are only distributed to your current mailing list. People who opt into your e-mail list after the newsletter has been published do not receive it, unless they specifically request it with an auto-responder address, which you must set up.

Using the broadcast feature of most auto-responder services, you can either type your newsletter, or copy and paste it into the editor. Then you distribute the message to all of your prospects on your list. More advanced auto-responder services will commonly have broadcasting features as standard.

Using an auto-responder to maintain a mailing list and to distribute a newsletter is a fantastic concept. Your readers can easily opt-in, or opt-out, and all of the circulation is carried out for you, based on the schedule that you arrange.

List maintenance can become very difficult without the automation that auto-responders provide. You can compose each copy of your message or newsletter well in advance, and have it delivered to your mailing list, no matter where you are or what you are doing. That is the beauty of automation!

Since all past broadcast and auto-response communications are saved, you can easily refer back to previous issues, or allow prospects to request past issues.

You can also use the tracking facility throughout each issue of the e-zine to find out how many clicks you are getting for the various products or websites that you endorse in your newsletter.

If you have not yet purchased an autoresponder or signed up with any autoresponder service make sure that you enquire about the broadcast feature first. Not all auto-responders or autoresponder services have this facility, and as your marketing progresses, you will discover that this is one of the most effective features of the service or program.
